RFID technology, formally invented in the late 1960’s is now gaining popularity due to massive reductions in cost. The RFID module allows passive tagging of individual traded units, or retail units by staff or automated applicators.

Enhanced traceability of fruit and vegetables
Most importantly, RFID allows your business and your suppliers to rapidly identify the contents and origin of a product in a non obtrusive manner. RFID allows goods to be accounted for rapidly, minimising breaks in the cool chain and increasing efficiency of operations of both manufacturers (grower and packhouse), transport and logistics, and end supply chain purchaser.

Automatic Tracking of fruit and vegetable, and seafood pallets with RFID (fixed stations)
A series of RFID stations is installed throughout the warehouse and packing facilities. Each time a pallet is moved it will eventually pass by a station which detects its current location. This allows the pallets contents to be automatically tracked without the need for user input.

RFID readers on forklifts
For additional functionality, PDA’s with RFID readers (cabled to the front of the forklift) can be used to further enhance the benefits gained from RFID. When a forklift drives up to a pallet, the RFID can be read automatically identifying the pallet and displaying its details to the user on a PDA.
