Banana in Australia

Bananas are Australia's largest fruit crop by volume: 369,000 t in 2024-25, worth A$719.4 million. Queensland grew 94.0 % of the national crop – mainly around Tully, Innisfail and the Atherton Tablelands – with NSW at 4.0 % (ABS). Almost the whole crop is sold domestically; there are no significant fresh exports.

Cavendish dominates, with Lady Finger and Ladies Finger types in smaller volumes. Biosecurity matters: Panama disease Tropical Race 4 is present in far north Queensland, so farm hygiene, movement records and traceability back to the block are part of normal business.
