The cool-room problem
Australian produce often sits in a cool room between harvest, packing and a DC booking. A spreadsheet tells you how many cartons you have; it does not tell you which lot is oldest, which grower it belongs to, or whether Woolworths will reject it on arrival. Producepak tracks every pallet and bin as its own lot.
- Oldest stock listed on request by Pak-Bot
- Value of stock at risk by room and site
- Chilling-sensitive rooms (bananas, capsicum, sweet potato) tracked separately
- CHEP and Loscam pallets counted in and out

Results
In Producepak case studies, ageing alerts and FIFO checks cut written-off packed stock from 3.5 % to 1.6 % at a three-site potato, onion and carrot packer – about A$175,000 a year on A$9.2 million of stock – and dumped stock from 6 % to 3.5 % at a berry wholesaler. Read the packer case study.
